WeSelf

WeSelf Manifesto

Change is coming anyway.
Let's meet it together.

WeSelf is an agenda that also helps you build healthy habits, find people with the same goal, lean on a small community and reach a specialist when you choose to. This page explains what we believe, what the app already does, and what it does not do yet.

Vision

To help people embrace change.

A new job, a move, a loss, a diagnosis, a relationship that ends or begins. Change is the one thing everyone shares, and the moment many people feel most alone.

We want change to become something you can plan for, talk about and practise, with tools in your pocket and people around you, instead of something that just happens to you.

Mission

Three commitments that shape every feature.

Hover over a commitment, or tap it, to see how it works in the app today and what is still missing.

Reduce polarisation by never filtering people by demographics

If an app sorts people into boxes, it teaches them to only meet their own box. We match on shared values and shared goals so that different people can find common ground.

Today in the app

  • Community groups are suggested from a values profile (the ten Schwartz values, such as benevolence, security or self-direction) built from what you write and choose, plus real places near you where a group can meet.
  • Matching shows groups, never individual people: no names, account ids, distances or values of anyone else. Automated tests enforce this since a privacy audit in October 2026.
  • Inside groups you use an anonymous nickname. Your name, date of birth, gender and city are encrypted on your phone, so the server cannot read them and cannot use them to sort you.
  • Being suggested to others takes your own act: switching on anonymous support. A matching profile alone is never treated as consent.

Not yet / limits

  • Location still shapes which groups you see, and neighbourhoods can mirror social divides.
  • Matching on similar values can create new bubbles. We do not yet deliberately connect people with different values.
  • Community features are for adults only. That is a safety gate, not a matching filter.
  • Nobody outside the team has measured yet whether WeSelf actually reduces polarisation.

Let people own their data and decide who can see it

Mental-health data is among the most sensitive data there is. The default should be that it is yours, shared one category at a time, with a record you can check.

Today in the app

  • Your identity (display name, date of birth, gender, city and address) is encrypted on your device. The server stores only a sealed blob it cannot open.
  • When you link a clinician, the key is wrapped for that clinician alone and needs their personal passphrase. Revoking the link removes their key.
  • Consent is granular: 12 categories (check-ins, journal, AI chat, tests, insights, passive signals, steps and health, location and community, voice transcripts, care messages, friends' goals, backups). Every grant and revocation is written to a permanent history.
  • Your login email and ID-verification files are encrypted at rest, so a database dump or backup shows ciphertext.

Not yet / limits

  • Journal entries, check-ins and AI conversations are processed on our servers, and by AI providers when you use AI features. They are not end-to-end encrypted like your identity.
  • The server-side encryption keys are held by the platform.
  • Anything a clinician has already decrypted and saved is outside any server's control.
  • Self-service export and deletion inside the app are not finished. Today you request deletion by email.

Grow self-awareness and social skills with resources and spaces to practise

Reading about empathy does not make you better at a difficult conversation. Trying, in a small and safe setting, does. WeSelf offers the tools to notice and the places to try.

Today in the app

  • Daily check-ins, guided journal flows and weekly reports help you notice patterns in mood, energy and direction.
  • AI reflection conversations, written or by voice, help you slow down a situation and find the next step.
  • The action builder turns a goal into small steps already placed in your agenda.
  • Anonymous small groups can plan real meetups at nearby venues, with RSVPs.
  • With friends you can share a goal and see where your perceptions align and differ, without scores.
  • A specialist is there if you choose: you request the contact and decide what to share.

Not yet / limits

  • We have no evidence yet that WeSelf improves social skills. University pilots are planned to test it.
  • Practice spaces need people. In this early stage some groups are quiet.
  • AI reflection can still sound generic. We are working on depth and on knowing when to suggest a human instead.

Roadmap

Where WeSelf is, and where it is going.

Now

Product hardening

  • Refine check-ins, journal, AI reflection and clinician workflows.
  • Improve reliability, privacy and trust across the core journey.
  • Open the code and the conversation to contributors.

Next

Pilots and evidence

  • Run pilots with universities, clinics and structured communities.
  • Test whether the app helps people through change and builds real connection.
  • Publish what we learn, including what does not work.

Later

Sustainable growth

  • Make WeSelf available to institutions that want prevention, not surveillance.
  • Secure the first partnerships and recurring revenue.
  • Keep the three commitments as the product grows.
